Program Description

Want to be a changemaker on your campus, get paid for it, and master the art of advocacy with Utah's leading LGBTQ advocacy organization? Seize this opportunity to get compensated for making a real impact during your college years!

The Equality Utah College Ambassador Program brings together students from across the state, from various universities and colleges. As an ambassador, you'll champion LGBTQ rights on your campus, engage with local and state politics, and forge meaningful connections within your community.

This program offers a distinctive chance to join a forward-thinking, civic-minded group of college students. You'll gain invaluable insights from local leaders, government officials, and the dedicated team at Equality Utah, all while driving positive change in your college community.

As part of this program, ambassadors are awarded $2,000 over two semesters. Additionally, you'll be treated to an all-expenses-paid, 3-day Legislative Summit. We'll take you up to the Capitol to demonstrate our approach to effective advocacy. You'll witness firsthand the strides made for LGBTQ people in Utah through the legislative process, providing a profound understanding of how change is enacted.

Program begins Fall Semester 2024 and ends May 2025.

Job Skills

• Initiative and ability to work independently
• Communication is timely, actionable, and accurate
• Curiosity and receptive to coaching
• Interpersonal is speaking to key stakeholders on campus and in the community

Responsibilities

• 5-7 hour weekly time commitment (flex schedule)
• Support LGBTQ community, clubs, and events on campus
• Support and educate staff on students on registering to vote and how to get involved
• Build relationships and get involved with campus stakeholders (college provost, government relations, political science department, professors, etc.)
• Build relationships and have a presence on a city level (meeting mayor of your town, attending city council meetings, etc.)
• Attending the 3 Day Equality Utah Legislative Summit (all expenses included)

Requirements

Must be actively enrolled or accepted for Fall ‘24 and Spring ‘25 in one of the following schools:
