Equality Utah's

College Ambassador Program

A group of young individuals pose together inside of the capitol building.

We’re shaping future LGBTQ leaders and advocates, empowering them with the tools to create meaningful change.

Our yearly ambassador cohort is made up of students from universities and colleges across our state. Their role is to support their LGBTQ community on campus, get involved in local government, and work to build relationships in their communities. They learn from the Equality Utah team, local stakeholders, and government officials on how to effectively advocate and organize on and off campus.

  • Commit 5–7 hours per week (with a flexible schedule).
  • Support LGBTQ clubs, events, and initiatives on campus.
  • Educate students and staff about voter registration and civic involvement.
  • Build relationships with campus leaders, such as the college provost, government relations offices, professors, and student organizations.
  • Engage with local leaders, including attending city council meetings and meeting your town’s mayor.
  • Attend the 3-Day Equality Utah Legislative Summit (all expenses included) to gain hands-on experience advocating at the Capitol.

Through this work, ambassadors become advocates, bridge-builders, and changemakers in their communities.

  • Curiosity: A willingness to learn, grow, and be receptive to coaching.
  • Interpersonal Confidence: Building relationships with stakeholders, students, and community leaders.
