The Recent Executive Orders from the Trump Administration
There has been a flurry of recent executive orders (“EOs”) from President Trump that have created concern and uncertainty throughout the LGBTQ community. EOs are dropping at such speed, leaving heads spinning. This week we saw a renewed ban on transgender Americans serving in our military, and a temporary freeze on PEPFAR, which provides critical funding for global HIV medication.
Yesterday, another new EO on medical care for transgender youth was issued, which we are still researching to fully understand its implications.
We are consulting with attorneys to assess the full impact here in Utah.
Regarding transgender service members, these brave individuals exemplify the best of American courage and patriotism. Their right to serve with honor is fundamental and unassailable. Likewise, through PEPFAR, America has been a beacon of hope for millions affected by HIV/AIDS worldwide. We are grateful to learn that funding for this vital program has been restored for now. These actions diminish not just the lives of those directly impacted, but our nation’s moral standing in the global community.
Even in challenging times, we do not despair. We remain focused and resolute. Join us as we gather in strength, solidarity, and friendship to meet this moment. We will not stop working to build a more fair and just future for all.
